Although there is no universal definition of mental health, mental health is a positive situation by people who can be responsible, displays self-awareness, is self-directive, is reasonably worry free, and can cope with usual daily tensions. Such individuals function well in society, are accepted within a group, and are generally satisfied with their lives.

Psychiatric mental health nursing
It is a specialized area of nursing practice that uses theories of human behavior as its scientific framework and requires the purposeful use of self as its art of expression. It is concerned with promoting optimum health for society. Comprehensive services focus on prevention of mental illness, health maintenance, management of and referral for mental and physical health problems, diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders, and rehabilitation (Haber & Billings, 1993).
